Sr. Data Architect
Kansas City Life Insurance Company, a recognized leader in the insurance industry, is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to join our IT department. The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:
  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 8 years of data architecture experience.
  • At least 8 years of SQL work experience.
  • Experience creating OLTP and OLAP data schemas.
  • Experience writing and optimizing queries.
  • Experience consulting for optimal design of database environments, analyzing complex distributed production deployments, and making recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Experience with multiple database technologies: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS (RedShift, ElasticSearch).
  • Extensive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated understanding of technology.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.
  • Design databases to support business applications, ensuring system scalability, security, performance and reliability.
  • Develop data models for database structures, design, document, construct and deploy database architectures and applications and implement measures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • End to end data lifecycle management activities; defining how data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed by various IT systems. Ensure all processes and structures adhere to all security and compliance requirements.
  • Database administration activities such as security, performance, capacity planning, and backup.
  • Evaluate current state of database systems and identify new solutions to increase efficiency and performance.
  • Mapping data sources to describe business meaning of data.
  • Define technical standards and guidelines to database architecture, data models, technology, and processes.
  • Provide technical recommendations for optimized data access and retention for the data warehouse.
