Assistant Counsel
Kansas City Life Insurance Company, a recognized leader in the insurance industry, is seeking an analytical, self-motivated individual to join our Legal department. The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:
    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • J. D. Degree with license to practice law in Missouri
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in corporate life insurance, compliance department, corporate legal, law firm, government relations or real estate investment setting
  • Specialized legal knowledge in the field of individual life insurance, real estate, contract, and corporate law
  • Ability to independently research law and to write and litigate matters in areas of specialization
  • LOMA, CLU, preferred
  • Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.
    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Respond to requests for advice from all customer service areas of the Company and assist with customer dispute resolution including responding to regulatory inquiries.
  • Provide legal services to Investment Department, especially the Real Estate and Mortgage areas.
  • Conduct litigation directly and by managing and directing outside counsel to achieve accurate predictions of outcomes and optimum results.
  • Assist the legal team in many areas of corporate legal work including litigation, Market Conduct Exams, legal research and opinions, contract review, investigations, corporate governance, Broker/Dealer matters, and acquisitions.
